Our Campus Safety Department serves as the first responders in emergencies both big and small. They protect people and property, faculty, staff, students and visitors, helping them feel secure. They control traffic at special events, monitor fire alarms, provide escort, and so much more.
Campus Safety Officers are non-sworn, civilian employees who have private person power of arrest. The officers have been trained by, and given the authority by, the La Verne Police Department to issue parking citations for violations of university parking regulations. The Director of Campus Safety has a direct liaison with administrative personnel of the La Verne Police Department and regular meetings are held each month to discuss problems of mutual concern. Our security department is dedicated to you so that your time on campus is welcoming and safe.
The University of La Verne Campus Safety Department consists of trained Campus Safety Officers and professional staff; including an Emergency Preparedness Coordinator and Student Assistants who are dedicated to provided security services and swift response to calls for assistance from our campus community and guests. Our dedicated security team patrols the campus and responds to emergencies. The University of La Verne requires all officers to complete training and receive certification from a California Peace Officer's Standards and Training Certified Academy in powers of arrest, search and seizure (832 PC), as well as obtain advanced certification from the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services to operate as a Campus Safety Officer. Additional training and certifications include advanced levels of Emergency Operations and Response Procedures, contained within the training courses offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the California Office of Emergency Services (OES), among others.
The Department of Campus Safety works with the cities of La Verne and its neighbors, the County of Los Angeles, the State of California, and various federal law enforcement authorities. These collaborative relationships help the Department of Campus Safety provide a safer university campus and more thorough and effective responses to concerns.
