Leos Caring For Leos (LC4L) is an initiative by the Campus Safety Department to emphasize our commitment to provide an environment that is positive and supportive to all members of the University and to bring swift and professional safety services to our campus community as well as our guests. To do so, we want to provide every person information and resources to help us respond effectively and swiftly to any concern.

If you see any of the following, we want to know about it as soon as possible.:

• A hazardous condition or suspicious activity, or
• If you notice a person who is injured or severely ill and may be in need of immediate assistance, or
• You sense anyone is behaving in a socially aggressive or destructive manner toward any other person,

To meet this goal, the University of La Verne's Campus Safety & Transportation Department encourage every member and every guest of our campus to:

• Contact us right away. If you see an emergency, call 911 or (909)-448-4950. As we are all frequently reminded, If you see something, please–say something. Help us get there sooner to provide assistance to someone in need.
• Contact someone else on campus. In some cases, people aren't sure if calling Campus Safety is the best option. We understand, so we encourage you to notify someone else nearby right away so they can help make that decision of how to get help best–and fastest.
• Text, email, call or come by. You can text or call us at 909-208-4903, email us at safety@laverne.edu, or stop by our offices at the Parking Structure. Want to attach a picture of the problem? Great idea! Send that too, it can really help us solve the problem if we can see the hazard you're describing to us.

Leos Caring 4 Leos also offers support to two additional on-campus programs that are new to the University of La Verne, the University's own Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), and the NCAA-partnered "Step up!". Step UP!

Step UP! is a prosocial behavior and bystander intervention program that educates students to be proactive in helping others. Teaching people about the determinants of prosocial behavior makes them more aware of why they sometimes don't help. As a result they are more likely to help in the future.

The goals of Step UP! are to:

• Raise awareness of helping behaviors
• Increase motivation to help
• Develop skills and confidence when responding to problems or concerns
• Ensure the safety and well-being of self and others

Behavioral Intervention Team

The mission of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) at the University of La Verne is to promote student, faculty and staff success and campus safety by identifying individuals who demonstrate behaviors that may be early warning signs of possible disruptive and/or violent behavior and intervene at the earliest point possible.

The focus of BIT is care and concern for students, faculty members and/or staff members who may be in distress. BIT members determine appropriate resources and implement a coordinated response with the goal of providing assistance to the individual while mitigating risk in an effort to keep the La Verne community healthy and safe. Please refer to the University of La Verne BIT website for additional information on how to identify a person of concern and/or file a report.
