Annual Air Quality Management District (AQMD) Survey

To comply with local air quality regulations, University of La Verne is required to conduct an annual employee commuter survey and submit an employee commute reduction plan to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). The purpose of the survey is to measure the effectiveness of the University's efforts to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicle trips and attain a 1.5 average vehicle ridership (AVR) to improve air quality in Southern California.

All University of La Verne employees are required to complete and submit the annual commuter survey. Thank you for helping the University meet its AVR goals each year by continuing to utilize alternative modes of transportation.

Much of our pollution comes from the products and services we use every day. We can all help by making some simple changes in the way we live: carpooling, using public transit, using water-based paint, wetting down sources of dust, avoiding aerosol products, recycling and conserving energy. We appreciate your efforts in protecting the air we share!

Steps to a Cleaner Commute

Southern California is famous for its traffic and smog – and the fact that we have both is no coincidence. Motor vehicles are the top contributor of pollutants in our air that cause smog. Here are a few ways to help make our air cleaner:

• How much pollution does your commute actually cause? The rule of thumb is that a vehicle spews about a pound of CO2 for every mile driven. To get a better picture of how much pollution personally cause by driving, use the Carbon Footprint Calculator at 1ES511.org/rideshare or track your emissions using the ridematch.info calendar.
• Lose a few pounds right away. Pick a time you'd usually drive alone and instead carpool, ride bus/rail, or choose a zero-emissions option like biking or walking. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, skipping the drive to work just two days a week can cut 2 tons of pollutants a year – or about the weight of the car your not driving.
